Liverpool won the title with 99 points in 2019-20 before plummeting down to third on 69 points last season. Liverpool stayed fourth in 2017-18 before they finished second on 97 points in 2018-19. Liverpool finished eighth in 2015-16 before moving up to fourth in 2016-17 when they had no European football. Liverpool ended their 30-year title drought under Klopp in 2020, having won a sixth European Cup the year before, and added a record ninth League Cup in February. Jurgen Klopp took over at Liverpool in October 2015 and the club reached their sixth domestic and European final with a 3-2 win over Manchester City in the FA Cup semi-final on Saturday. Nemanja Matic has already confirmed he is leaving and Andreas Pereira is waiting for a permanent transfer to Flamengo to go through. Seven players are all but certain to leave in the summer, with Lee Grant, Paul Pogba, Jesse Lingard, Juan Mata and Edinson Cavani all out of contract. United are certain to end trophyless and although they only trail fourth-placed Tottenham by three points, their next three fixtures are away at Liverpool and Arsenal and at home to Chelsea. Ralf Rangnick believes the rebuild at Manchester United could be as short as a two-year plan.
